As we ready ourselves up for the launch of Borderlands 2 on September 18, 2012, Gearbox Software has revealed that the game’s development has been concluded and that it is now headed to certification. The studio has also commenced work on the recently announced Mechromancer class which will be doled out as a pre-order incentive with the title.
The much anticipated sequel to the 2009 hit, Borderlands has all its content locked on its disc, and is now being tested ‘thoroughly’ according to the developer in order to ensure that it’s ready for release. As the work on Borderlands 2 is almost over, Gearbox Software has shifted its focus on post-launch content, the first of which will be the Mechromancer DLC.
“As such, the team is now shifting their focus towards post-launch efforts, including the Mechromancer: the new character class that will be released as free downloadable content to members of the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club roughly 60 to 90 days after launch. The Mechromancer is just one of the many bonuses for members of the Premiere Club, which can be joined by pre-ordering Borderlands 2 from a participating retailer in advance of its release on September 18 in North America and September 21 Internationally,” Chris Faylor, Community Manager at Gearbox, mentioned on Gearboxity.
Like its predecessor, this game will be a first-person shooter with role-playing elements. Four characters classes will be available to choose from at the start, each with their own unique special skills and proficiencies with certain weapons. Its entire campaign, which is being said to be about 60 hours long, will be playable in co-op.
Gamers can now pre-order Borderlands 2 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC to avail of download codes of the Mechromancer DLC which will be made available in approximately two months after the launch. A cool new trailer of the title can be checked out in the space above.
