BioShock Infinite release date pushed forward yet again

One more delay now means that the release date of BioShock Infinite has been set for March 26, 2013, instead of the earlier announced date of February 26, Irrational Games has confirmed. ‘Polish and bug fixing’ has been cited to be the reason for the delay this time around. Fans will remember that earlier this game was scheduled to come out for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in October 2012, and hence, this makes it the second holdup that is being faced by it.

‘Let’s start with the bad news,’ was how iconic game designer, Ken Levine stared off a preview event this week, which was attended by Joystiq. ‘The game has to be the best game it could possibly be,’ he asserted while adding that the title will get a lot of help from the extra hours of polish and bug fixes.

However, this cannot taken to be the only reason for the push in the launch date, as the recent departures of key people from the Irrational team cannot be ignored. Art director Nate Wells and director of product development, Tim Gerritsen left the company midway through the development, sparking many a question about the game’s future. But the development nonetheless continued with new high-profile hires.

Abandoning the location of Rapture which featured in the first two games from this series, BioShock Infinite takes players on a journey through an alternate reality setting which takes place in 1912 on a city suspended in the air by giant blimps and balloons. Dubbed Columbia, this city is visited by gamers as Booker DeWitt. He is sent there to look for a young woman named Elizabeth, who has been held captive for twelve years.

As far as its gameplay is concerned, this title adopts the first-person shooter model, and couples it with trademark attributes of the series such as unique weapons and psychokinetic powers. A few months back, this title was announced to have been infused with a new ‘1999 Mode,’ which lets gamers play on extreme difficulty.
