Metal Gear Solid V teased as The Phantom Pain?

Metal Gear Solid V has been teased in the form of The Phantom Pain, or so that’s the buzz going around at the moment. However, heaps of evidence pointing towards the fact has come to the fore. It all started last night at the Spike VGAs when a trailer of a yet unannounced title called The Phantom Pain left everyone in disarray. Moreover, the developer of this game was announced to be a certain Moby Dick Studios – another name, which was previously unheard of.

This unexpected trailer, which is unavailable right now, apparently features a one-armed man, who has a hook as a prosthetic left arm, going through an asylum wherein patients are being murdered by mysterious soldiers. According to Eurogamer, although the man’s face was never made apparent, he did seem to look like MGS character, Solid Snake.

This certain Moby Dick Studio describes itself on its website as a Swedish outfit founded by its CEO, Joakim Mogren. As pointed out by a comment on the above mentioned website, Joakim is a play of words for Kojima – the first name of the iconic mastermind behind the MGS series. Mogren on the other hand, includes the word ‘Ogre’ in it, pointing out to the codename of MGS 5 – Project Ogre.

Another important allusion that can be looked at is the way ‘The Phantom Pain’ is written in its logo. Although the words in it are readable, the letters are arranged in quite a peculiar manner. Gouda Jouji, a user of the MGSforums, has posted this image we’ve embedded below, tracing the supposed suggestion which reads Metal Gear Solid V.

And as if that wasn’t enough, there have been several reports from folks present at the VGAs that they saw people wearing Moby Dick t-shirts in the Konami section of the party. Konami, as we know, is the current publisher of games from the series. Another fresh title coming up under the series is MGS: Ground Zeroes which was revealed a few months back.

It can be concluded now that whatever The Phantom Pain is, it has something – or rather everything – to do with Metal Gear Solid V. The developer’s website tells us that it’s being made for the PS3 and Xbox 360. We’ll keep scanning the Internet for more news, so make sure to look for updates.
