Halo 4 Infinity Challenge announced, Spartan Ops to take a break

December 17 will see the launch of the Halo 4 Infinity Challenge which is being brought to the Xbox 360 by Microsoft and Virgin Gaming. A number of prizes have been announced for this event, with one of them being a UNSC-themed, V8-powered 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor truck that has been designed by 343 Industries. This multiplayer event will put the weekly episodic challenges under the Spartan Ops content on a hold starting December 10.

The new free-to-enter tournament can be registered for by owners of the game currently at www.halo4infinitychallenge.com. As far as the question of how the tournament works goes, it has been disclosed that it will track players’ personal score in War Games as well as the number of Spartan Ops chapters they complete on global leaderboards. A total of 2,800 prizes will be up for grabs. And the grand prize of the F-150 SVT Raptor truck has been reserved for the War Games leaderboard winner. The grand prize for the Spartan Ops winner will be the opportunity to feature in a future game from the series.

The qualifier phase for the Halo 4 Infinity Challenge will run from December 17 till January 10. During this period, gamers will be required to climb the global leaderboards with the help of either Spartan Ops or War Games modes. Following this phase, they will be divided into three groups, and will automatically be entered into the final phase which will commence on January 12 and go on till January 19. Upon the start of the finals, the leaderboards will be reset, and prizes will be granted to the top performers in each tier. The grand prize however will be reserved for the one who’s the best performer in the top tier.

During all this, the second half of the Spartan Ops Season One will be on a hiatus. It will resume later in January complete with fresh episodes, chapters, locations and maps. As announced earlier by Microsoft, the game will also be updated with a premium Crimson Map Pack DLC which is slated to come out through Xbox Live on December 10.
