As announced on the official PlayStation blog yesterday, CoD: Elite Premium members waiting for their first DLC drop will be able to acquire two new maps of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on February 28, 2012. As per the DLC release schedule announced by Activision last month – a simplified version of which can be read here – this content will be doled out to other gamers as paid downloads in the future.
The two multiplayer maps that will be seen making their way into this DLC were earlier released for Elite Premium subscribers who play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on their Xbox 360 consoles. Hopefully, the single profile locks that were experienced by these players on the new maps would not be a part of the PS3 version. Piazza and Liberation are the names of these maps that will be released through PSN later this month.
Dan Amrich, Social Media Manager, Activision, explained on the blog, “The first two maps will arrive for Call of Duty Elite premium members first on February 28th, with more content to come over the nine months that follow. If you’re an Elite premium member, you’ll get a message at the MW3 multiplayer menu as soon as the content is available to download; from there, just select Store from the multiplayer menu and the downloads will be yours at no additional charge. It’s part of the whole Elite premium package.”
The Piazza map is said to be the perfect battleground for fans of close-quarters combat. It is apparently filled with sharp corners, tight corridors as well as stone staircases, and is located in Italy. On the other hand, Liberation is set in Manhattan and is believed to offer gamers more room to run. Various perches, an underground passage as well as many ambush cover options have been put into this map, claims the developer.
Upon its launch on February 28, this first DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be free to download for those gamers who have purchased the CoD: Elite Premium membership for the game.
