Capcom Reveals Lost Planet 3, Details Other 2012 Releases

At Capcom’s annual media showcase event Captivate, the industry giant disclosed that Lost Planet 3 is in full development and it will be released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in early 2013. Moreover, it has also come to light that the much anticipated Resident Evil 6 will now be outed on October 2, 2012, instead of its earlier November launch window.

The new game in the Lost Planet series is claimed to deliver unpredictable and harsher conditions than ever before. Gamers will be spawned in the shoes of Jim, a utility rig pilot who must travel to E.D.N. III in order to abide by a hazardous but lucrative contract. Said to contain a range of gameplay elements that count in third-person on-foot battles as well as first-person utility rig action, this game will have players facing the perils of uncharted terrain, hostile climate and the threat of indigenous Akrid creatures. Along with a single-player campaign, multiplayer modes have also been announced to form part of Lost Planet 3.

At the Captivate even, Capcom allowed members of the media to have a first look at Resident Evil 6 by showcasing one of Leon Kennedy’s missions in the game. Taking place in the Ivy University campus, this objective has Leon and his partner Helena Harper searching for an escape route from the site which is filled with zombies as a result of a recent bioterrorist outbreak. Street Fighter X Tekken may have launched for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but the PS Vita version won’t be out until fall of this year. And the latest news surrounding the title has revealed that it will be eligible for cross platform play with the PS3 using the Vita’s Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity.

Other traits that have been confirmed to form part of this version include touch controls, local and Wi-Fi multiplayer matches, the Near function as well as additional content from the console version. Moreover, attendees of the Capcom event were also given a chance to get a hands-on with DmC: Devil May Cry which is yet to get a definite release date. Developers Capcom Japan and Ninja Theory presented a level of the game, wherein Dante is seen fighting against a Hunter Demon that has tracked down the Son of Sparda.

In other news, the Xbox 360 exclusive Steel Battalion Heavy Armor which is to release in June this year has been blessed with a four player co-op multiplayer mode. Members of the media were even allowed to play parts of the game which also makes use of the Kinect sensor. Other offerings which were playable at the event include Dragon’s Dogma and the PS Move enabled Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection.

Gamers longing to get their hands on Lost Planet 3 will have to wait until early 2013 when the game is scheduled to launch.
