Battlefield 1943 in June for $15, says DICE

Battlefield 1943, the downloadable multiplayer-only game, will keep fans of the series entertained as they wait for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Now Digital Illusions CE, an Electronic Arts studio, known as DICE has announced that Battlefield 1943 will be released in June for 15 USD (approx. Rs. 745) in the Xbox Live Marketplace and in the PlayStation Store. The game will also go live for the PC in September.

Battlefield 1943

Battlefield 1943 is the 24-player multiplayer game which allows players to get into the action on a variety of maps inspired by Battlefield 1942. Total destructibility is offered by the Frostbite engine used in the game, leaving players with absolutely no place to hide.

“Using the same Frostbite engine that we developed for Battlefield: Bad Company, we are able to take players back to WWII and return to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, but with a new twist, destruction,” Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943 explained. “We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title with Battlefield 1943.”

Gordon Van Dyke also posted a few words on the official EA forum giving an explanation for why the PC version would be released in September and not June like the console versions, in which he said, “This is to give us the proper development time to create a proper PC version of Battlefield 1943 and not a console port. We want to make the best damn PC version we can for our PC fans!”. Apparently the PC version will be the first game from DICE using the Frostbite engine and in order to make a proper PC version the team needs a completed core game to develop over.

The game features three tropic and classic locations, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and Wake Island. Players can join the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy, and battle by air land and sea, with the freedom to choose what path they take towards reaching the goal.
