Right from the beginning of the year, Activision has been busy blowing its own trumpet. First they had sent word that they are the top selling handheld and console publisher in the US. Now, Activision has sent word that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the number one title in units worldwide for 2007.

Will Kassoy, Senior VP, Global Brand Management, Activision Publishing quotes, “We are very thrilled about this achievement especially given so many competitive titles this year. Consumer and critics agree that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the best games ever created and further establishes Call of Duty as one of the leading brands in the industry. This revolutionary game and franchise continue to establish new standards by which all other action games will be judged.”

This time, Activision has used figures not only from The NPD Group, but also Chart Track and The GFK Group. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been developed by Infinity Ward. The game has taken away a lot of awards and managed to do something that only a few other games did – to live up to the expectations of the gamers.

COD 4 has sold more than seven million units worldwide from the time it was launched in November 2007. In fact, the first person shooter also knocked Halo 3 from the top of the list of most played Xbox Live games.
