Team 17’s extremely successful Worms franchise is all geared up to be blessed with yet another game which will be released in the form of Worms Revolution. This turn-based strategy title will be seen invading PC and consoles during Q3 of this year.
The game is said to have been developed from the ground up, and hence, isn’t any kind of expansion to the previous titles. A completely new game engine has also been announced by the U.K.-based developer to be present in this entrant. Fresh features and challenges will be introduced as well. Moreover, much loved traits like the Super Sheep and Holy Hand Grenade from the earlier titles will be retained.
The Worms series of turn-based games had spawned its first offering way back in 1995. Initially available only for the Amiga, it was later launched on a number of other platforms such as the PlayStation, PC, Mac, SNES, Game Boy and more. The series’ transition to 3D came in 2003, when Worms 3D was launched for the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PC and Mac. Next came Worms Forts: Under Siege in 2004, which was followed by Worms 4: Mayhem.
Last year saw the launch of Worms: Ultimate Mayhem which is now available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Along with these 3D games, a number of other 2D offerings were also delivered from time to time. Worms 2: Armageddon and Worms: Reloaded are two such examples.
Worms Revolution is yet to be given a fixed release date. It has however been revealed that the game will be ready for launch until Q3, 2012.
