Velocity Ultra unveiled by FuturLab for PS Vita

Velocity Ultra has been announced by British developer, FuturLab to be headed to the PS Vita with enhanced offerings than those of the original PS mini game it’ll be a rework of. No particular release date for the same has been disclosed by the company as yet, but it has however predicted that it might be ready for launch sometime during May of this year. Through a post on the official PlayStation blog, its maker has granted fans some light on the type of work that’s been going into this title.

Velocity Ultra

Velocity Ultra comes at a time when fans have been asking Futurlab for a sequel to the original game. The studio has responded to this demand by saying that it has ‘plenty more Velocity in the works’ right now. It has disclosed that since it will be a full-fledged PSN offering, Trophies, online high scores and an overhauled visual style in the native PS Vita resolution will all form part of it. The art of the game is being completely reworked on. This means that the cutscene stills have been restructured at higher standards than before.

The developer has claimed that it is amalgamating the art style throughout the entire title, dumping its pixel art for an edgy cartoon style. Moreover, various visual effects are also being introduced to the game. As can be seen from the before-after image in the space below, dark shading has been added on each side so as for the screen to focuses on the action. Furthermore, the explosions have been reworked on, and they now illuminate the environment, creating a dynamic effect.

FuturLab has said that these lighting effects have been achieved in a way that the Vita will still be able to run the game at 60fps. This according to the maker has been made possible by the ‘powerful’ hardware of the handheld. It has been also mentioned that fans can look at this version as a ‘director’s cut’ of the original, as it will contain all the aspects that could have been added had the studio possessed a big enough budget during the creation of the original.
