Sony PSP Crosses 10 Million Mark in Japan

Last month we had reported that Sony’s handheld gaming console, the PlayStation Portable was the top selling console in Japan. Sony has one more reason to celebrate! Japanese magazine Famitsu is reporting that the Sony PSP has sold 10 million units of the PSP in Japan.

Also, the Japanese magazine had a list of the top selling game of the PSP in Japan. The top two games were the Monster Hunter games from Capcom, with Monster Hunter 2nd G selling 2,396, 642 copies and Monster Hunter 2nd following it with 1,706,387 copies. The other three games that made it to the top five are Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII from Square Enix, Monster Hunter Portable from Capcom and Phantasy Star Portable from Sega.

The PSP took more than three and a half years to reach that milestone as the console was launched in Japan on December 12, 2004. But if you compare it with the Nintendo DS, the console took just one year to reach that milestone in Japan. But Sony is doing a lot of things as last week they even launched a free WiFi internet service for the PSP in Japan.
