PSP Slim Sells 17,000 Units in UK

A few weeks ago, we had reported that the Slim PSP would first hit Europe and then Japan! According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has stated that the PSP Slim & Lite has sold around 17,000 units on its first week of release in the UK. It was launched on September 14, 2007.

A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe told GamesIndustry.biz, “The first week sales have come in at 17,000, so around a four fold increase on the previous week. Of course we expected the previous weeks to be low as we moved the old stock through the channel in preparation for the Slim & Lite sku coming into retail, but now we are back on track and preparing for the launch of new products such as Go! Explore and Go Messenger.”

Sony was aggressive while marketing the handheld console in the UK, and the launch of the Slim & Lite was backed by radio and online advertising campaigns. Some time ago, Chart Track figures had indicated that month sales of the PSP were at an all time low, but that was attributed to Sony offloading the last of the original PSP stocks.
