Sony, MTV Sign Deal To Get Content On PSN

Xbox 360 gamers have been used to getting a lot of nice content on the Xbox Live as Microsoft has released many movies and TV shows on the online service. In fact, they even offered anime on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Sony too, it seems has been doing a lot for the PS3 gamers.

Now Sony Computer Entertainment America or SCEA has sent word that they have entered into a partnership with Viacom’s MTV Networks. So what does this mean for the PlayStation gamers? Well, the latter’s programming will be available on the PlayStation Network (PSN) for the PS3 and PSP gamers. Expect shows like The City, SpongeBob SquarePants, Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels and even South Park!

Greg Clayman is the executive vp of digital distribution and business development at MTV. He explains, “From Nickelodeon to TV Land and everywhere in between, MTV Networks’ brands feature some of the most admired shows and some of the hottest stars for almost every conceivable demo. By making our varied content lineup available through the PlayStation Network, we are giving PlayStation users instant access to hundreds of hours of our very best programming in the comfort of their own living rooms.”

Peter Dille, SVP, Marketing & PSN, Sony says, “We are excited to add content from MTV Networks to our line up, it’s a perfect fit for the PlayStation demographic, one of the most coveted audiences in entertainment today. Combined with the advanced technology of the PS3 and PSP, the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service truly provides consumers the best and most comprehensive content on demand from an incredible line up of entertainment brands to enjoy at home or on-the-go.”

The TV shows from MTV networks will be available on Sony’s PSN from February 2009. They have stated that new shows that have a spring premier will be added as per the availability. The deal covers many brands of MTV Networks such as Spike, VH1 and Atom amongst others. The PSN already has a lot of content as there are demos, trailers and even movies and TV shows.
