Here’s some not so good news for all you PS3 gamers. A Trophy synchronization bug seems to have plagued PS3 games. The mysterious error renders certain games unplayable. There’s word around though that apparently Sony is working on a patch that should rectify the issue.
Corrupting a users Trophy data, the bug seems to occur when a user changes their PSN ID or password. This leads to a synchronization error for certain games and an error notice is delivered. However in the worst case scenario, the message keeps appearing in loops, annoyingly making the game inaccessible.
Titles that are apparently affected by the bug include Wipeout HD, Burnout Paradise, LittleBigPlanet and Pain. As of now, video games news website CVG has suggested a supposed effective solution. They say:
Delete your Game Data (that’s the install files for a game, NOT the Save Data).
Use the Backup option in the PS3’s XMB to create a full backup of your hard drive.
Restore your PS3 from the backup.
Your trophies will all be gone but don’t panic – that data will be stored on Sony’s servers. Just reinstall the game, install the Trophy data and the sync should work fine. Maybe.
The troublesome trophy-related bug is breaking a number of games on the console, sometimes even completely. The PS3 games are not playable unless users perform a console backup-restore to remove the corrupted data. The error seems to have first surfaced through in October after the 2.53 firmware was released. However, until now, there was no update on a patch for the error. Sony now reveals to officially release a patch soon.
