Sony Working to “Refine” Price of PS3: Sir Howard Stringer

Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman & CEO of Sony Corporation has indicated that his firm is planning to cut the price of their next-gen console. He felt that the public would like the cost of the PS3 to be lower. In fact, just like Microsoft, he lauded the Nintendo Wii.

Howard Stringer told Financial Times, “Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours . . . because it’s cheaper. That (price cuts) is what we are studying at the moment. That’s what we are trying to refine expected. I expect energy (in PS3 sales) by Christmas, and then you will begin to see break-out games.”

Sony is not the only one who is thinking about cutting the price of their next-gen console. Some days ago, we had reported that Microsoft maybe planning to cut the price of the Xbox 360. It looks like gamers will be looking forward this years Christmas as not only will they be playing more next-gen games, they might be able to buy their favorite next-gen consoles at a cheaper price.

Earlier this year, SCEA head Jack Tretton had rubbished claims that they will cut prices for the PS3 as they had done for the PS2. It seems that they have done some deep thinking and it could well be a great thing for the gamers!
