Elden Ring Crosses 16.6 Million In Worldwide Sales

Elden Ring

After seeing the biggest launch for any Souls game to date, Elden Ring has now been revealed to have moved 16.6 million units worldwide. Given the popularity of the game ever since its launch and the extremely good reception it received from the media, this is not that big of a surprise.

Bandai Namco has revealed to Gematsu that the latest figures of Elden Ring have breached the 16.6 million mark. These figures include both digital and physical copies of the game.

Elden Ring was released in February for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. By the time May had rolled along, it had already moved 13.4 million units off store shelves. This means it has taken just three months for another 3.2 million units to be sold. More than anything, it proves that the game’s popularity still remains high worldwide.

Chances of Elden Ring receiving a sequel are hence incredibly high. In fact, back in March, Bandai Namco and developer From Software had gone on to describe its successful launch as a “fantastic start for the new franchise.”

Elden Ring has come from the minds of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin. It takes place in the universe of Lands Between, which includes a landmass ruled over by several demigods. Gamers assume the role of the Tarnished, an exile who must traverse the realm to repair a magical Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.

It is an open-world RPG at its core. But what makes Elden Ring unique is its gameplay, which adopts the Souls concept involving high levels of difficulty and emphasis on environmental storytelling. From Software’s Dark Souls marked the creation of this genre and the developers have since greatly evolved it.
