The Elder Scrolls 6 Still In ‘Design Stage,’ Says Bethesda Boss

The Elder Scrolls 6

Three years after the game was officially announced with a teaser video, The Elder Scrolls 6 still seems to be reeling behind other Bethesda offerings. Todd Howard, Chief Software Engineer and the face of the company in many ways has said that the game is still in the ‘design phase’ at the moment.

Howard was actually speaking about Bethesda’s other biggie, Starfield, when he made the revelation about The Elder Scrolls 6. He told The Telegraph that the game will benefit from following the upcoming space odyssey game, the engine of which is being used for the preparation of the Skyrim sequel’s development.

“The technology, Creation Engine 2, is sort of built for both,” he said. “It’s like a new tech base. The vast majority of our development work is on Starfield right now but everybody works on everything so the projects kind of intertwine.”

He added, “It’s good to think of The Elder Scrolls 6 as still being in a design [phase] but we’re checking the tech: ‘Is this going to handle the things we want to do in that game?’ Every game will have some new suites of technology so Elder Scrolls 6 will have some additions on to Creation Engine 2 that that game is going to require.”

So it seems clear now that the development of The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t quite pick up pace until the release of Starfield. Thankfully, that game has a release date now and it’s November 11, 2022. Its first look was unveiled at this year’s E3 but no real details are available right now, apart from some small bits of information.

And we have even fewer bits of information regarding The Elder Scrolls 6, which was first showcased at E3 2018 through the teaser posted above. If you’re a fan of the series, be prepared to jump into Skyrim again for the hundredth time, since its sequel doesn’t look set for release for at least another three years.
