The big news of the week was Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red deciding to offer refunds to unhappy players on last-gen consoles. But another controversy was quick to erupt as many who wanted to get a refund on their PS Store-bought copies weren’t able to do so owing to Sony’s stringent refund policy. Nevertheless, the company later decided to process the refunds and even chose to completely remove the game from their storefront. Unlike that, Microsoft has made it known that while it will indeed provide refunds for digital copies, it will stop short of pulling the game from its online store.
In a tweet yesterday, the Xbox Support account explained, “To ensure that every player can get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice.” Despite following in on Sony’s footsteps, the company is still listing the game on its online storefront, allowing interested parties to snag a copy for themselves if they are okay with the plentiful bugs and glitches that the game is riddled with on the Xbox One. CD Projekt Red has promised improvements in the weeks to come.
When Cyberpunk 2077 was finally released on December 10, it opened to rave reviews that showered high praises for the game’s exquisitely imagined world, its detailed action-RPG gameplay, its excellent story, and its breathtaking visuals. However, the reviews also pointed to glaring bugs and glitches that reviewers hoped will be solved in time. It turned out though, that reviewers were only provided with PC copies of the game and were asked not to use their own captured footage for their video reviews.
When the game finally went live, while the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were working admirably, it was found that the PS4 and Xbox One copies were filled with immense performance issues, game-breaking bugs, and hilarious glitches. Days of uproar and a severe hit to its stock prices finally prompted CD Projekt Red to respond to affected gamers and start offering refunds. If you’ve purchased Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 or the Xbox One, you can claim your refunds now through the respective storefronts. Offline buyers need to return the game where they bought it.
