Final Fantasy 7 remake revealed to be episodic in nature

In news that has hit fans hard, the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 remake has just been revealed to be episodic in nature. This means instead of releasing the full game at launch, it will be doled out in parts after particular intervals of time. Square Enix has indeed provided a reason for taking this decision, but it’s certainly not going down well with fans.

During its recent PlayStation Experience keynote, an breathtaking new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 was debuted. However news about its episodic nature was not shared during the gathering, and was instead revealed via a press release.

Later, in an interview with Dengeki Online (translated by Gematsu), the game’s producer Yoshinori Kitase expanded on the issue, giving it some clarity. According to him, Final Fantasy 7 was not fitting into a single release from the very beginning of its development schedule. Director Tetsuya Nomura has disclosed that if the title was to be launched in a single release anyway, parts of it would become summarized.

The Final Fantasy 7 remake is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, but it still remains without a release date or even a release time frame. This is not the first time Square Enix is disappointing fans by going for an episodic release of one of its titles. The upcoming Hitman game has also adopted such an approach. It was earlier supposed to be released for the PS4, the Xbox One and PC tomorrow, but has been delayed into March 2016.
