PS Plus Multiplayer Perk Will Be Free This Weekend

PS Plus Logo Those with PS4 and PS5 consoles who don’t have a PS Plus membership will be able to access online multiplayer gameplay for free this weekend. All the games that require PS Plus to allow you to play online won’t have such a restriction during this period.

It’s worth noting that no other PS Plus perk will be available over this weekend. That means you won’t be able to claim this month’s free games, nor will you be able to take advantage of the PS Plus Collection benefit on your PS5.

Sony has mentioned that the free online play will be accessible to PS4 and PS5 owners from 12:01 am onwards on December 18 and last until 11:59 pm on December 19. These are local dates and times so it doesn’t matter where you live in the world.

While PS Plus will be free this weekend, there are reports of the service being primed to undergo a huge change. Sony apparently wants to compete with the Xbox Games Pass and is said to be working on something codenamed Spartacus that will offer similar features.

Apart from PS Plus, Sony also offers PS Now, which is a subscription that allows players to indulge in classic PS2 and PS3 offerings over the cloud. According to a Bloomberg report, Spartacus will merge Plus and Now into a single subscription.

In fact, if the report is to be believed, Sony will offer 3 different subscription tiers to gamers. While the first one will be the same PS Plus membership that we have right now, the second tier could include access to a large catalog of PS4 and PS5 games, a la Xbox Games Pass. And it’s the third tier that could add PS Now on top of all that.

Nothing official is available about this PS Plus revamp as of now. But what we know for sure is that non-subscribers have a great chance to try out the multiplayer portions of their favorite games over this weekend.
