Sony’s PlayStation Showcase 2021 livestream sprung up quite a few surprises. We got to see our first footage of God of War Ragnarok, while interesting new games were announced in the form of Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 and a hugely surprising Wolverine game from the same studio. But those are not the only biggies from the event. Here’s a look at all the highlights.
God of War Ragnarok
The upcoming PS4 and PS5 title saw a long trailer featuring gameplay and cinematic visuals. Its story will pick up a few years after the events from the 2018 game and will feature encounters with Thor, among others. We must say, we are extremely excited about this one. It comes out in 2022.
Spider-Man 2
Insomniac’s two Spider-Man outings were more than magnificent and it seems the studio is ready to hit it out of the park once again with Spider-Man 2, which stars Peter Parker and Miles Morales, along with Venom. We got a short trailer for the game, as it’s too far away from its 2023 release window.
Wolverine
Spider-Man 2 isn’t the only thing that Insomniac is working on. It’s making a video game on another Marvel superhero, Wolverine. The teaser features a destroyed bar room with Wolverine having a drink at the counter when a man tries to attack him. The game will likely only arrive on the PS5 and we don’t have any release window information.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves
Uncharted is ready to hit PC finally. The Legacy of Thieves Collection will feature remastered versions of Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy that will be released for the PS5 and PC in early 2022.
Gran Turismo 7
Sony says the goal of Gran Turismo 7 is to “convey everything from the last 150 years of car and racing culture, whether you are a lifelong fan or discovering cars for the first time.” It hits the PS4 and PS5 on March 4, 2022.
KOTOR Remake
Legendary RPG, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting a remake. Aspyr is developing this game that doesn’t have a release window yet. It will be a timed exclusive for the PS5, after which it will hit PC and the Xbox Series X/S.
Project Eve
A new IP was announced by Shift Up Corp. in the form of Project Eve, which looks like a Bayonetta-like hack and slash offering. This game is coming to the PS5 and its release date remains a mystery.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
The Borderlands universe gets explored even more by Gearbox in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. This spin-off has a high fantasy setting and gameplay that will make any Borderlands fan feel right at home. It’s coming on March 25, 2022, on old-gen and new-gen consoles as well as PC.
Forspoken
Square Enix’s Luminous Productions studio has come up with a new IP in the form of the Forspoken. Slated for next spring, this game focuses on a young woman named Frey, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she’s magically transported to Athia, a land where fantasies and nightmares are suddenly very real. It’s headed to the PS5 and PC.
Rainbow Six Extraction
Coming this January, Rainbow Six Extraction got a fresh trailer that shows in detail how the alien threat in the game will look like. The series trademark tactical gameplay is also on showcase in the footage.
Alan Wake Remastered
Remedy confirmed the existence of Alan Wake Remastered a day before and it now has a trailer to show off as well. This will mark the first time the game will be played on a PlayStation console. October 5 is when it will arrive for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
GTA 5
The new-gen console versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 have been delayed but Rockstar has a swanky new trailer to share. The game will now arrive on the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S in March 2022.
Ghostwire Tokyo
Despite being in Microsoft’s kitty now, Bethesda came to the PlayStation Showcase with its upcoming Ghostwire Tokyo. The trailer is scary as they come. It will hit PS5 and PC in spring 2022.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Eidos Montreal’s much-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy game got a trailer that features quirky encounters and even a talking dog. The game comes out on October 26 for the PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Deathloop
Deathloop got a story trailer even as its release is just a few days away. The PS5 and PC offering from Arkane Studios puts you in the shoes of Colt, an assassin who is stuck in a time loop, waking up on a beach at the island of Blackreef.
In other news from the PlayStation Showcase event, it was announced that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is coming to the PS5, while a new game inspired from New Caledonia was announced in the form of Tchia. It will come to the PS4, PS5 and PC in 2022.
