God of War: Ragnarok Delayed Into Next Year, Also Headed To PS4

God Of War

Big-ticket games getting delayed is sort of a norm now, which is why Sony moving the release of God of War: Ragnarok into next year is not a surprise. What is unexpected though is the news that it will also hit the PS4. There’s no word on where the release window of the much-awaited sequel sits.

Developer Sony Santa Monica Studio has cited the “safety and wellbeing” of its team as the reason behind the delay in God of War: Ragnarok’s release. The game was revealed through a short teaser trailer late last year and was slated to hit the PS5 this year.

“Since the release of the next God of War teaser last year, we’ve been humbled by the amount of love our community has shown us. We’re incredibly grateful to see so many people excited to experience the next chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ journey. We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift out release window to 2022,” the studio said in a statement.

As for news about the game’s PS4 release, it came straight from Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios who sat down for an interview with the PlayStation Blog. He said, “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 – for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 – we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them.”

God of War: Ragnarok will be the ninth installment to the franchise and the second installment in the newly rebooted universe when it comes out next year.
