God of War is now the fastest selling PS4 game ever

Released on April 20 to much fanfare, God of War has gone on to become the fastest selling PS4 game ever. It beat the record of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in order to achieve this landmark. The game had opened to extremely positive reviews from critics all over the world.

God of War managed to sell 3.1 million copies in the span of just three days, according to Sony. As opposed to that, Uncharted 4 had moved 2.7 million units in its first week, back in May 2016 when it had made its way to the PS4.

This year’s God of War acts as a reboot to the series, of which it is the eighth installment to date. Unlike the previous titles which were loosely based on Greek folklore, this one takes its story details from Norse mythology.

The protagonist however, is still the ever so fuming Kratos. A big change in this game is the addition of a secondary character which comes in the form of Kratos’ son, Atreus. He is an intrinsic part of the gameplay, as he helps the main character deal with his enemies in many unique ways.

The new God of War has adopted a few RPG elements as well, in the form of archery knowledge points, a Spartan Rage timed-ability and more. In combat, Kratos’ trademark double-chained blades have been replaced by a magical battle axe which can be summoned back into his hand, just like Thor’s hammer.

God of War had opened to universal acclaim from critics, and was praised not just for its gameplay, but also for its narrative, world design, art direction, characters and its beautiful graphics which can best be experienced on the PS4 Pro.
