‘Gift of the Yeti’ Facebook App from BioWare

Recently we’ve seen NFS Nitro and Dante’s Inferno get a Facebook app, probably to boost popularity. It seems to be the trend now, as BioWare has announced the ‘Gift of the Yeti’ Facebook application for the game Dragon Age: Origins. Gamers who play the free Facebook app will get a 10 USD discount on Dragon Age: Origins.

Gift of the Yeti

In Gift of the Yeti, players get the opportunity to help a sick Santa deliver gifts. On Facebook, friends can compete to beat each others’ high scores. Each day on the Advent calendar a new piece of the back-story of the Yeti will unfold. Also, BioWare will donate 10,000 USD to the Child’s Play charity.

“Gift of the Yeti is BioWare’s digital holiday card to its fans. We use social networking as a powerful tool to connect meaningfully with our tremendous fan community,” stated Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare and the Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group at EA. “Gift of the Yeti is a fun, engaging holiday present from BioWare to our fans, the first in a series of compelling social experiences from BioWare Labs.”

“Child’s Play draws the bulk of our support from video gamers and the games industry, and we are honored to be part of BioWare’s Gift of the Yeti campaign,” Kristin Lindsay, Program Coordinator, Child’s Play remarked. “Now gamers can help support pediatric hospitals in the US, Canada and worldwide simply by playing the game and having fun! When gamers give back, it makes a big difference.”

Players can choose from a variety of different gifts to send their friends. And for every play of the Facebook app, BioWare will donate a minimum of a penny, up to 10,000 USD to the Child’s Play charity.
