New kind of Mario game on its way from Nintendo

Super Mario has been the darling of video game enthusiasts right from the first time the chubby plumber got his own game. It’s hence very exciting to know that the character will soon be getting a new game that won’t be from any series or sub-series established before.

Yes, a ‘new kind’ of Mario game has been teased by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto. He has also speculated that we’ll probably get to see this fresh game at next year’s E3.

In an interview with IGN, the Nintendo legend revealed that the company is always challenging itself to create something new, and ‘so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two.’ Miyamoto then added, ‘Maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something.’

This year saw the unveiling of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which broke the series’ conventions to adopt new gameplay elements. There is a possibility of the same happening with the next Mario game as well. However, Miyamoto has said that it will be more difficult than Zelda, as the important conventions of Mario games are ‘based on approachability and accessibility.’

The Mario franchise is awfully large, and features a number of series as well. The last main platforming game to have come out of it was Super Mario 3D World which was extremely well received by critics and gamers alike. At this year’s E3, Nintendo revealed two new titles in the form of Paper Mario: Color Splash and a new Mario Party offering.
