Final Fantasy 14 could be headed to the Xbox One

Final Fantasy XIV or Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn may very well be on its way to the Xbox One console. This controversial MMORPG has so far only been released for the PS3, the PS4, PC and Mac.

The hint about Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn being on its way to the Xbox One has been given by none other than the game’s director, Naoki Yoshida while speaking to Polygon. He has revealed that Square Enix and Microsoft are currently in talks to bring the MMO to the console.

FFXIV had initially ignored the platform owing to regulations with regards to cross-platform play. But recently, Microsoft has opened up support for the same, with links between the Xbox One and PC being taken advantage of by a number of games. The creators of this console have even made it possible for cross-platform play with the PS4, but Sony is yet to comply.

There are apparently several regulations on the Xbox One’s online platform that are making it difficult for the developers of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn to bring the title to the console. They have hence asked Microsoft to waive these limitations off, and the company is yet to reply.

Final Fantasy XIV was first released for PC back in 2010. It was met with extremely negative reviews, leading to the PS3 version being delayed for a very long time. Due to this, the makers were forced to reinvent the game as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This was launched for PC and the PS3 in 2013, while its PS4 and Mac release came in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

We’ll have more on the possible Xbox One launch of Final Fantasy 14 when new information on the matter is available.
