Battlefield 1 expected to get a closed alpha this week

Things look pretty much on track for Battlefield 1, even as speculation of a closed alpha version of it being ready to be deployed this week is in the air right now. Although no official announcement has been made by EA or DICE, a reference to it has been spotted in a preview of the game, published by GameSpot.

Battlefield 1 received a full reveal at this year’s E3, and like all recent games from the series, the focus was heavily set on multiplayer. Naturally then, the developers will want everything in this department to work flawlessly at launch, and for this, the more tests conducted the better.

However, the fact that it’s a closed alpha means that normal gamers have an incredibly slim chance of getting into it. These tests are reserved for internal analysis, and it’s mostly the developers themselves and some close relatives of theirs that get to jump into them.

In a piece about Battlefield 1, a GameSpot reporter said that ‘I’ve only spent an hour in the maps that will be available in the game’s closed alpha next week. This is enough evidence that the reporter knows something that we don’t, having interacted with the developers during the course of writing the preview linked above.

Battlefield 1 takes place during World War I, and this is what has got everyone excited. The game will bring with it old school warfare, while staying true to the series’ staples like vehicular skirmishes and large-scale multiplayer battles.

Battlefield 1 will be released for the PS4, the Xbox One and PC on October 21 this year. You can pre-order it through major retailers right now.
