Prince of Persia Released for Wii and 3DS in U.K.

Even as classic games continue to make merry on modern content delivery services, another such title was launched recently for the Wii and 3DS in the form of Prince of Persia. This legendary platforming game has been published by Ubisoft and can now be downloaded through the eShop as well as the Virtual Console section of the Wii Shop Channel.

Prince of Persia 1

This classic was first released for the Apple II, after which it got ported to various other personal computers such as the Amiga, the Amstrad CPC, the Atari ST, and PC. Subsequently, with the bloom in the console market, this game was released for systems such as the Sega Master System, Sega CD, TurboGrafx-CD, NES and Game Boy. Its Mac and SNES versions were launched as enhanced editions of the original title.

The story of this title asks the prince to make his way through sprawling levels, deadly traps, while engaging in occasional swordfights and finally facing off against the evil Grand Vizier, in order to rescue the princess. It is said that this game had eventually influenced a sub-genre of platforming games which later emulated a few of its scenarios like non-scrolling levels, fluid animation and control style.

Prince of Persia 2

A part of the original trilogy, this title was followed by two other games since its launch in 1989. PoP 2: The Shadow and the Flame arrived in 1993 for multiple platforms, whereas PoP 3D debuted in 1999 with 3D graphics and enhanced gameplay.
