Google Maps for Wii U revealed by Nintendo

Google Maps for Wii U is ready, and is all set to release via the eShop sometime in Q1 of 2013. But that’s not the only important piece of information coming in from the latest Nintendo Direct address. Another addition that’s on its way to the newest console is an application named Panorama View which was previewed by the company at this year’s E3. And then of course, there’s some brand new games-related information that has been revealed.

In order to better understand the way Google’s location-based service works on the device, it’s important to know what the Panorama View software is all about. It is essentially a downloadable application which lets users enjoy panoramic videos using their GamePads. But the fun part is that by moving the device around, they can grab a full view of all the sights that lie around them. So while the video on the television will run like usual footage, the GamePad will provide a 360-degree view of the entire space around that video.

With the introduction of Google Maps for Wii U, this feature will tie in with the location-based software to provide the same kind of views using its Street View trait that is available in select countries. In the video we’ve posted below, Satoru Iwata gives us a demonstration of how it all works. Once the concerned place is spotted on the map, users can enter Street View mode. Their GamePads then begin acting like they do in Panorama View, letting users grab a full view of the locations.

Besides, Nintendo has finally unveiled the Scribblenauts Unlimited release date for Europe. It will be launched for the Wii U and the 3DS on February 8, 2013. In North America, it is already available for purchase on both platforms. Fresh gameplay footage of Pikmin 3 has been debuted as well. And there’s also news coming in that the game has been delayed in Europe. It will now be coming out for the Wii U in Q2 of 2013.
