Boulder Dash for American VC This Week

This week’s Nintendo Download coincides with the start of E3 2009 and brings news of one DSiWare title, Mighty Flip Champs!, two WiiWare titles and one VC game, Boulder Dash. The WiiWare games are Final Fantasy IV: The After Years and Texas Hold’em Tournament.

Mighty Flip Champs! is from WayForward Technologies for one player and can be purchased for 800 Nintendo DSi Points. The game features a string of action-packed mazes through which players must page-flip. The game gives a preview of the next chamber so that DSi users know the goal. Then they must use Alta’s Magical Warp Wand and change one world into the expected one, making sure that Alta remains safe in the new world.

Texas Hold’em Tournament on Nintendo’s WiiWare service gives players a chance to have a go at the no limit poker games loved by professionals. Players start off in the small gaming halls of Nevada trying to make it in the poker world, while they work their way up to the Las Vegas Championship. The game can be played online against as many as five opponents and features full Mii support and online leaderboards. Texas Hold’em Tournament is for one to six players and can be purchased by redeeming 500 Wii Points.

Final Fantasy IV After Years

Next for Wii owners on WiiWare is the game Final Fantasy IV: The After Years from Square Enix for one player and 800 Wii Points. The game focuses on Ceodore, the son of Cecil Harvey and Rosa Farrel, who also appear in this sequel along with other characters from the original Final Fantasy IV. The second moon has re-appeared and monsters are beginning to populate the peaceful Blue Planet trying to upset the peace once again.

For the Wii’s Virtual Console is the computer-game classic, Boulder Dash for one or two players. The game’s hero Rockford must dig through various caves in search of diamonds and avoid perils such as dangerous creatures as well as falling boulders. When players collect the required amount of precious stones, the escape tunnel is revealed and Rockford can make his way out to explore another tunnel system. Boulder Dash can be purchased by redeeming 500 Wii Points.

Both the Nintendo DS and the Wii feature parental controls. Nintendo releases new titles and applications to the Nintendo DSi Shop and the Wii Shop Channel every Monday at 9 am PST.
