Though the major territories for video games are North America, Japan and Europe, Australia too is an important stronghold for the gaming companies. Now Nintendo has sent word that their current generation console, the Wii, is the fastest selling home console to cross the half million mark in Australia.
Nintendo touts data from independent market research firm GfK Australia that corroborates that Wii has sold more than 500,000 consoles. The console that previously held the record took 107 weeks. The Wii beat it by 23 weeks as it just took 84 weeks to reach the half a million mark in the land down under.
Nintendo Australia also spoke about new games for the Nintendo DS and Wii such as Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension and Etrian Odyssey. The Wii was launched by Nintendo in late 2006 and has become popular all over the world.
