Nintendo is to launch the DSi in Europe on April 3, 2009. Although this is a day after the DSi launches in Australia and New Zealand, it is still 2 days before the US launch. It seems like the US is no longer a benchmark for other nations to follow. The Nintendo DSi will be available in white and black, the same two color-schemes as the Australian DSi.
The Nintendo DSi comes with not one but two cameras which are capable of detecting players’ movements and facial features. Now play can be controlled by moving the upper body i.e. hands, head and arms in front of the camera making for an entirely new way to interact with the device.
The Nintendo DSi camera software comes equipped with 11 special camera effects adding to the things you can do with your DSi. Users can edit images using a variety of filters and frames. They can even share their photos with friends wirelessly or save them on an SD card as the DSi features an SD card slot.
The Nintendo gadget has enhanced volume and heightened sound quality. The DSi allows users to play around with sound and tweak the music experience. The pitch and speed of a sound file can be increased or decreased at will. Players can add sound effects to sound clips to create their own mixes.
Users are offered the option of customizing their DSi units with a load of applications and games available at the DSi Shop, a virtual shop from where users can download software aptly named DSiWare corresponding to WiiWare for the Wii. The DSi comes with in-built flash memory so that you can store all your downloads on your DSi and take them everywhere with you.
The Nintendo DSi is available in each of the two colors with a matt finish and is about 12 percent thinner than the Nintendo DS Lite. Thin though it may be, the DSi features bigger and brighter 3.25 inch screens. Almost all the Nintendo DS games can be played on the DSi eliminating the need to re-purchase DS games for your new DSi.
