Nintendo DSi coming to Australia before it hits US

Isn’t it is strange to see that the Aussie release date is set three days prior to the April 5, 2009, the US launch of the Nintendo DSi? Nintendo has sent word that DSi will be available in Australia and New Zealand from April 2, 2009.

The Nintendo DSi brings an all new handheld gaming experience along with it. The unit is slimmer than its predecessor and comes with an inbuilt camera with which you can assemble you own photo diary. The Nintendo DSi also can be used to store and play music and browse the web. The unit also has advanced features such as bigger LCD screens and an SD memory card slot.

The camera on the DSi has “11 different types of lenses to choose from”, says the statement released by Nintendo and you can even morph and twist your friends’ faces around. You can store the photos on the DSi and watch slide shows of your photos and even exchange them with other Nintendo DSi users. The device lets you play music that you have on an SD card. You can record sound clips using the microphone and edit them.

The Nintendo DSi browser will be available as a free download at the launch and you can get your Nintendo DSi to go online via the browser. Nintendo DSi software will be made available for download by purchasing a Nintendo Points Card, earlier known as a Wii Points Card. Using the Nintendo Points card you can download Nintendo DSiWare in the Nintendo DSi Shop. This Nintendo DSiWare will be presented in 4 different price classes, i.e. free, 200 points, 500 points and 800 points or higher.

The Nintendo DSiWare will include handy DSi applications in addition to downloadable games. The Nintendo DSi will be extremely customizable with a variety of applications to download. Some of the other features include 17 percent bigger screens than in the DS. The Game Boy Advance cartridge slot has been removed accounting for the slimmer body.

The Nintendo DSi comes to Australia and New Zealand in matte Black and matte White and includes calendar with memo function and touch screen, Wi-Fi and built-in memory. The DSi retails for about 299.95 AUD (approx. Rs. 9,610) or about 375.00 NZD (approx. Rs. 9,600).
