Nintendo DSi Launches in US in April 2009

Nintendo pioneered hand-held entertainment in the late ’80s with a variety of products. Now Nintendo brings the new DSi system set to revolutionize the industry once again. We had reported about the US DSi launch earlier. It will release in the US in April 2009, Nintendo confirmed.

“Ever since the arrival of the first Game Boy, consumers worldwide have turned to Nintendo for their portable gaming,” stated Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Nintendo DSi builds on Nintendo’s commitment to bringing fun and creative entertainment to everyone, and will allow consumers to personalize and share their very own experiences.”

The Nintendo DSi Camera, Nintendo DSi Sound and Nintendo DSi Shop are among the new features that will come with the device. There are 2 cameras, one which is on the main body of the DSi and the other one which faces the user when the device is flipped open. In the statement released by Nintendo it is given that the camera has “10 different interactive ‘lenses’ that can manipulate your photos”.

The Nintendo DSi Sound application lets user to listen to their music on an SD card or even record and edit sound clips with a variety of audio filters. The audio filters control the pitch and speed of playback. The device boasts of stereo phonic headphone output that lets you listen to music even when the screen is shut.

The Nintendo DSiWare application will allow users to download the most recent software and games using Nintendo DSi Points. Nintendo DSiWare software and games will be available for a range of point values starting at 200 points.

The DSi will be able to run most of the 850 DS games and is not just built for downloadable games. Retail games are also made for the DSi. The Nintendo DSi will be launched in the US on April 5, 2009. The DSi will cost about 169.99 USD (approx. Rs. 8,485) and will be available in two colors, Blue and Black.
