Nintendo DS Outpaces Sony PSP in Japan

A few days ago, we had reported that Sony was celebrating in Japan as the PlayStation Portable had crossed the ten million mark in Japan. And a few days before that, the PSP had kept the top spot in Japan. But now it has emerged that the Nintendo DS has outpaced the Sony PSP in Japan.

Media Create has provided data that indicates that Nintendo’s handheld gaming console gained in the sales chart of Japanese hardware for the week that ended August 31, 2008. The DS sold some 56,439 units, which is up form the 55,995 units, that were sold the week before. If you compare the PSP sales, they declined as PSP shifted 41,664 units compared to the 47,604 units from the earlier week.

As for the home consoles, the Nintendo Wii sold 35,755 units while the Sony PS3 shifted 9,775 units. As for the Xbox 360, Microsoft managed to sell 3,124 units of the Xbox 360. What about the PlayStation 2, well it also showed some nice numbers as Sony sold 8,810 units of the console in Japan.
