Red Dead Redemption hits Xbox One, vanishes quickly

Those taking advantage of the backwards compatibility feature of the Xbox One have been demanding that Red Dead Redemption be released for it soon, but Microsoft has been holding off on the game since long. Over the weekend though, this offering was made available accidentally, before it was taken down by the company.

Only for a few hours Xbox One owners were able to download and play this Xbox 360 title if they owned copies of the latter version. Red Dead Redemption wasn’t easily available though, as gamers were needed to follow a particular procedure in order to get it.

The trick involved finding a friend who had ‘followed’ the game, entering its Xbox One store page through their profile and setting the game for downloading. As revealed by Eurogamer, such a method could be followed not only for Red Dead Redemption, but also for other unavailable titles like Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Left 4 Dead 2, Halo Wars and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

This flaw in Microsoft’s system has since been rectified, and the games are no longer available. But what this does mean is that Red Dead Redemption and the other above mentioned titles are not too far away from being released for the backwards compatibility feature of the Xbox One.

Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption was released back in 2010 for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. It offered gamers a chance to jump into an open world Wild West setting which involved horse riding, bounty hunting and much more.

Red Dead Redemption is still to be officially announced as a backwards compatibility title for the Xbox One; so we’ll have more on it when Microsoft gets around to doing that.
