Xbox One ships 5 million consoles, still lags behind PS4

While Sony just announced that it has sold 7 million consoles worldwide, Microsoft has gone ahead and revealed that 5 million Xbox One units have been shipped till date. This still doesn’t constitute to sales, as the number applies to systems which have been delivered to retailers. But while the next-gen PlayStation has already been released across 72 countries and regions, the Xbox One remains seated in a select few markets.

Xbox One

Through a blog post, Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox One is doing better than the Xbox 360 did back when it was launched. Sales of the old console have been outpaced by more than 60 percent by the new one. A few interesting facts have also been thrown our way. Microsoft reveals that owners of the system are spending an average of five hours per day on the Xbox One and they have collectively put in over one billion hours of time on games and apps.

One of the main games aimed at the console has a lot to do with this sudden spike in its success. Yes, we’re talking about Titanfall here; the mech-based first-person shooter made by Respawn Entertainment has been doing quite well in the markets right now, as it was the number one selling game in March according to data harnessed by the NPD Group.

Despite all this, the Xbox One still stands far behind the PS4. Factors such as its hesitance to provide 1080p-60fps visuals, its comparatively higher price tag, its mandatory bundling of the Kinect are largely to be blamed for this.
