Nintendo Switch OLED Model Is Here Without Any Pro Functions

Nintendo Switch OLED

Ramblings about the Nintendo Switch OLED Model were being heard for far too long and it has finally been unveiled by the Japanese giant. However, if you were expecting this console variant to come with a performance boost, you’re going to be disappointed. Its display is the only major change here.

The Nintendo Switch OLED Model ditches the 6.2-inch IPS LCD of the original for a 7-inch OLED panel with the same 720p resolution. It gets a redesigned kickstand at the back that has a sturdier and wider flap and can be adjusted at multiple positions. The model also features better audio, though no details of this technology have been provided.

One more change is an updated dock for connecting the consoles to the TV. It now has an integrated LAN port for those who want reliable wired connections for their online sessions. This dock will also be sold separately and will be compatible with the standard model. Storage gets doubled to 64GB on the Nintendo Switch OLED Model.

As we said, no battery or performance boost has been granted to the console. That means the OLED Switch will come with a 3570mAh cell. Although, the overall battery life should see some improvement owing to the OLED nature of the screen. The processor will still be the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip.

In fact, the Nintendo Switch Lite also grabs the same battery and chip. Released in 2019, it’s a barebones version of the console with non-detachable controllers and no support for docking. It’s basically an entry-point for playing all Switch games and is priced at $200, against’ the LCD model’s $300 price.

The Nintendo Switch OLED Model adds a $50 premium over that price, making it $350. It will be made available on October 8.
