PS4 voice commands will be muffled at launch

You won’t be able to speak to your PS4 the way you wished to; at least at launch, as Sony will be limiting the feature just to a few functions. It has been learned that the Kinect-like function will work only on a few commands when the PS3 will be launched later this week. Accomplished using the new Eye camera of the console, this ability will indeed be rolled out in a full-fledged manner in the future.

At a PS4 review event in New York, Engadget was told by the Japanese company that the next-gen console will not be able to wake up or pause videos using voice commands. However, you will indeed be able to shut it down and start games on it without touching your controllers. There’s no word as yet about when an update will be issued for all concerned functions to be activated. Sony has even revealed that no third-party apps on the PS4 will be able to take voice commands at launch.

On the other hand, Microsoft’s Xbox One boasts of a large number of features that you can control using your voice. Sony had stayed shy of revealing its support for such an ability for quite a long time, but it was in September that it officially confirmed the presence of the trait on the PS4. This console is all set to be released on November 15 in North America, whereas its European launch is slated for November 29.

The price of the PS4 has been kept locked at 399 USD (approx. Rs 25,000) for the US, but we still don’t know its official tag for the Indian market. You can pre-book yourself a unit by laying down a deposit of Rs 3,000.
