Future Generations of Wii Won’t Have Hand Controllers: Intel

The motion sensing controller of the Nintendo Wii is its biggest USP. One would surely think that the future iterations of the Wii would have the motion sensing functionality. However Digital Spy is reporting that Intel feels that the successor to Nintendo’s next generation console will not have hand controllers.

Justin Rattner is the chief technology officer at Intel. He commented, “We imagine some future generation of (Nintendo’s) Wii won’t have hand controllers. You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you’re playing tennis.”

The microchip manufacturer is surely going all guns blazing as they have been in touch with not only Nintendo, but also Microsoft and Sony for the chips that might power the next round of video game consoles. In fact, Intel is claiming that their newly developed microchips are able to make 1 trillion calculations per second, which is very high compared to the 256 million calculations per second made by the Cell processor by IBM.
