With a bevvy of Hollywood productions bearing the brunt of the ongoing writers’ strike, season 2 of The Last of Us has seemingly joined the league as well. All production work has reportedly been hit so fans can expect a delay in the arrival of the much-awaited second season.

Variety has learned from multiple sources that season 2 of The Last of Us was in the pre-production stages, with casting for new characters being underway.

And since the scripts for the second season weren’t ready yet, the actors were asked to audition with lines from the 2020 video game on which the season will be based.

And with the strike taking effect even that was put on hold. Considering the fact that the scripts for season 2 aren’t ready and that series co-creator and showrunner Craig Mazin is actively participating in demonstrations, this is an indefinite delay.

Right now, season 2 of The Last of Us is supposed to start filming early next year in Vancouver. It remains to be seen whether this timeline can be adhered to.

The Last of Us was renewed for a second season after only two of its episodes had aired in January this year. Based on the same story featured in the 2013 video game, this series was created by Craig Mazin (the creator of Chernobyl) along with game director Neil Druckmann.

The Last of Us 2 video game featured a number of new characters so it would be interesting to see the casting for the second season. The roles of Abby, Dina, Jesse, and Lev will be pivotal to the series, going forward.

Meanwhile, all 9 episodes of The Last of Us season 1 are now available for streaming on HBO Max.
