Skyrim, Fallout 4, And Other Bethesda Games Getting FPS Boost On Xbox Series X/S [Update]

Skyrim

Update: The five games in question have been granted the FPS Boost feature now. To experience it, gamers must have the latest update installed on their consoles and also have the FPS Boost function is turned on in Compatibility Options under the Manage Game section.

Original Story: A few prominent games from Microsoft’s latest buy, Bethesda are soon getting the FPS Boost treatment on Xbox Series X/S consoles. These include the likes of Dishonored Definitive Edition, Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Prey. There is, however, no word on when this feature will hit the games.

The news comes straight from Xbox’s Lary Hyrb aka Major Nelson who revealed it on his podcast. It is notable that all five of these games were recently added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog. It has been confirmed that these five games will give players the option to turn off FPS Boost as well, in case they wish to play the un-boosted versions.

FPS Boost is a new feature that allows old games to run on Xbox Series X/S consoles at high frame rates. It’s something that’s entirely done by the consoles, so there’s no developer-side input needed. This latest batch of Besthesda games joins a very short list of titles supporting FBS Boost right now, however, Microsoft has said that it plans on adding FPS Boost to its backlog of Xbox games every couple of weeks.

In September last year, Microsoft announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire Bethesda-owner ZeniMax Media for a whopping $7.5 billion. The deal got finalized earlier this month and some of the biggest franchises in gaming, including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Doom are now in the ownership of Microsoft.

It’s not clear yet how exclusivity will work for future titles from the newly acquired game studios. If Microsoft does decide to make the upcoming games Xbox Series X/S exclusives, it would mean a big loss to those who own the PS5.
