The Witcher Season 2 Wraps Production

The Witcher Wrap

It’s a wrap for season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher series, which means we can keep our hopes alive for new episodes to arrive later this year. The news was confirmed by the show’s makers with the release of a short behind-the-scenes video detailing how the second season of the hit TV show was produced.

This has been a particularly difficult production cycle given the difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Production was first halted in March last year, when actor Kristofer Hivju tested positive for the virus, while a delay was also faced in November when there were multiple positive cases on the set. Not just that; lead actor Henry Cavill also suffered a major injury while on an assault course located at a height of 20 feet.

That being said, season 2 of The Witcher is finally in the cans and ready for postproduction. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has revealed in the behind-the-scenes video that the new season has required 158 days of filming. It was shot in 15 locations with 89 cast members and over 1200 crewmembers.

“We cannot wait to show you what Geralt, and Ciri, and Yennefer, and Jaskier, and all of your favorites have been up to since we left them at the Battle of Sodden Hill. There are plenty of new characters and storylines, and of course, monsters, to explore as well, as we dig into the Blood of Elves and beyond,” Hissrich added.

The much appreciated first season of The Witcher was released in December 2019 on Netflix. While Henry Cavill plays the lead role of Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan stars as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg. There’s no word on when season 2 of the show will hit the streaming platform.
