Netflix’s The Witcher is still to finish filming its second season, but a third one already appears to be in development. Evidence of the streaming service having greenlit season 3 has cropped up online, telling us that Lauren Hissrich will once again be serving as the showrunner for the series. A six-episode prequel series titled The Witcher: Blood Origin is also in development right now, in case you’re unaware.
A listing for the third season of The Witcher has been spotted on the website of the Writer’s Guild of America West. It’s being said that production for this season will take place across 2020 and 2021. The second season of the critically acclaimed show is currently in filming following delays caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
As we said, The Witcher: Blood Origin is also a show that’s under development right now. It will be set 1200 years before Geralt of Rivia when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be. Declan de Barra, who wrote the first episode of The Witcher, will act as executive producer and showrunner for this prequel. Andrzej Sapkowski, the Polish author responsible for the Witcher novels, will serve as a creative consultant on the series.
The first season of The Witcher premiered on Netflix in December last year and was an instant hit. Starring Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Eamon Farren, and Anya Chalotra, it tells the story of how the lives of Geralt of Rivia, Crown Princess Ciri, and the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg intertwined to make them the characters that they are.
You can watch the first season of The Witcher on Netflix right now but don’t expect the second season to land on the service anytime soon.
