Deathloop Has Been Delayed Yet Again

Deathloop

Deathloop, the time-bending action-adventure from Prey and Dishonored maker Arkane Studios, has been delayed into September. The game was supposed to come out in May this year, but its new release date has been set for September 14, 2021. No clear reason has been mentioned for the change, though Arkane did say that it wanted to give priority to the health and safety of everyone working on the game.

“We’ve made the decision to delay the launch of Deathloop to 14th September 2021. We’re committed to quality and preserving our team’s ambitions for Deathloop while ensuring the health and safety of everyone at Arkane. We’ll be using this extra time to accomplish our goal: create a fun, stylish, and mind-bending player experience,” the studio said in a statement.

Deathloop was unveiled by Bethesda during 2019’s E3 at Sony’s PlayStation event. It was revealed then to be a timed console exclusive for the PS5 that will also get a simultaneous PC release. Back then it was supposed to come out for both the platforms in 2020. However, COVID-19 related delays meant the game was pushed into 2021.

Following Microsoft’s deal to acquire Bethesda owner ZeniMax Media there was some ambiguitiy surrounding Deathloop’s PS5 timed exclusivity. However, it was made clear by Arkane earlier this year that status quo will prevail despite the acquisition. According to the deal, the game will arrive on Microsoft’s consoles a year later.

Deathloop puts you in the shoes of Colt, an assassin who is stuck in a time loop. The gameplay involves shooting elements, as well as a blend of stealth, parkour, and supernatural attacks, which makes it eerily similar to Dishonored and Prey games. A second playable character also exists in the form of Julianna.
