Warner Bros developing Minecraft movie, has already acquired rights

Indie game Minecraft has managed to win the hearts of many players around the world and now, the title is headed to the big screen as reports about a possible movie have started flooding in. The game’s developer has disclosed that the company is working with Warner Bros to make the film a reality.

Markus Persson has disclosed this information through Twitter. The mildly amusing tweet reads, ‘Someone is trying leak the fact that we’re working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft movie. I wanted to be the leak!’ Apart from this, Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros has already acquired the rights to the movie and that Roy Lee and Jill Messick are onboard for producing the film.

The report also highlights that the Minecraft movie will be produced at Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment. Apart from these details, nothing else is known about the film. Seeing as there are no objectives in the game, the possibilities are just too vast to speculate. Mojang will be part of the development and we expect the core gameplay to be the main part of the storyline.

Minecraft made its debut back in 2011 and it has also been ported over to mobile platforms such as Android and iOS as well as consoles. The game is considered as one of the best sandbox open-word releases available and it has achieved huge success over the years. Just last year, the company announced that the PC sales had surpassed 10 million.
