Minecraft for PC hits 10 million sales figure, new update could add horses

Mojang’s sandbox indie wonder, Minecraft has surpassed the 10 million mark as far as the sales of its PC version are concerned. This figure of course counts in the Mac and Linux editions as well. What’s more, fans can expect its newest update to tow along horses into the game, as the said addition was hinted at recently by one of its developers. Achieving this major milestone has apparently made it the seventh best-selling PC title of all time, beating the likes of Half-Life, Guild Wars and more.

Game designer, Jens Bergensten broke the news through his Twitter account recently, while also teasing the contents of the game’s upcoming update. Along with his tweet, he posted an image of a horse, accompanied by the text, ‘a subtle hint on the main 1.6 feature.’ Fans have since got worked up, as there’s little doubt now that stallions will indeed be making their way into the title. However, there’s no word as to when we’ll get to see this 1.6 update hitting the block.

According to Wikipedia, this game will have to surpass more 1 million copies sold so as to dethrone StarCraft and Battlefield 2 from the sixth spot of the best-selling PC titles of all time. The number one spot at the moment is being held by the incredibly popular The Sims 2 which has purportedly traded off 20 million copies. On second place is its predecessor, The Sims which seems to have 16 million sales in its kitty. The number 3 and 4 spots are occupied by Diablo 3 and Half-Life 2, respectively, with 12 million sales each.

Released for the first time in 2011, this game was quick to grab attention, as it provided a completely fresh perspective on sandbox play. Rendering itself in retro graphics, it asks players to build constructions from textured cubes inside a 3D procedurally generated world. But there’s a lot more to it than that, which can only be experienced by those who play it.

With Minecraft for PC having already crossed the 10 million mark, the only thing that remains to be seen is how much more its popularity soars. The game can even be purchased for the Xbox 360, iOS and Android.
