0x10c cancelled by Notch, game picked up by community

The creator of Minecraft, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson had revealed 0x10c to be the name of his new game back in April last year, but he has now announced to have shelved the project. What was supposed to be a sandbox science fiction title has since been picked up by the community it seems, and its fans have taken it upon themselves to create a game inspired from it. The new developers won’t be making use of the 0x10c moniker and neither will they be relying on its original story.

As revealed by Geek.com, the decision of shelving 0x10c was announced by Notch at a recent Team Fortress 2 livestream that he was participation in. That was when he disclosed that he has no future aspirations for 0x10c, with his focus being on creating smaller games for the rest of his life. In April this year, news had come about the game being on hold because Notch had hit a creative block, but the new confirmation has made things a lot clearer.

USGamer had a talk with Shane Dalton, who’s the project lead of the 0x10c revival. He has revealed that he and his team won’t be using any of the old code from the original title, and will be starting its development from scratch. Since they won’t be able to use the game’s name either, they’ll be calling it Project Trillek for now. It has also been made clear that no types of monetization options are being looked at by the developers right now.

The 0x10c revival title will however take the core gameplay concept of the original which involves humans navigating through space while managing their own spaceships.
