Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li opened in theaters over the weekend and was an abomination, from a revenue perspective. The movie only grossed about 4.7 million USD during the course of the weekend and came in at 8 on the top ten earners of the weekend.
What’s more, the movie has even done worse than Van Damme’s Street Fighter from 15 years ago which picked up 6.8 million in its first weekend and is absolutely blown away by the corresponding revenue that Mortal Kombat pulled in. Street Fighter: The legend of Chun-Li is at the opposite end of the spectrum from the hugely popular Street Fighter IV videogame. The game has been surging up the flagpole having already shipped 2 million copies as of last week.
In the movie, Chun-Li takes a breather from being a professional pianist to go in search of her long-lost father. She must get martial arts expert Gen and Interpol agent Charlie Nash on board to free her father from the crime boss Bison.
