We Aim to Sell 35 Million Wii Consoles: George Harrison

Nintendo may be facing difficulty in supplying Wii to the gamers, but that has not deterred them from laying out ambitious plans. Nintendo of America’s Senior VP George Harrison has stated that they are aiming to do a PS2 by selling at least 35 million Wii consoles in the United States by 2011 or 2012.

George Harrison says, “Demand is much greater than we anticipated. A year ago no one thought we would be in this position. We’re starting to see in the performance of the PS3 and Xbox 360 that that’s not necessarily motivating the market the way it used to. So we’re going to start work on future technology only when we believe it’s necessary.”

He later on added that Nintendo will be increasing the Wii production at factories in China to meet the demand. In order to take on the PS2, which is the best-selling console so far in the US, Nintendo will have to sell at least 39 million Wii units as PS2 has already sold more than 38 million in the US while around 115 million PS2 consoles have been shifted so for from stores worldwide.

Apart from their future plans, Nintendo has also sent word that fourteen new games for Wii will be releasing this year. New games include in-house title Mario Strikers Charged and Boogie, which will be a musical game.
